Faith and Community
The power of Prayer
In the Orthodox Church, prayer is the lifeline that connects us to God, nurturing our spiritual growth and deepening our faith. We believe that prayer is not just a personal act but a communal experience, encompassing the entire body of Christ, both living and departed. Praying with the saints is a profound expression of this belief.
Saints’ Stories
These narratives, curated from the archives of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of North America, highlight the faith, dedication, and miracles of the saints of the Orthodox Church.
St Job of Pochaev
The Venerable Job, Abbot and Wonderworker of Pochaev, is a cherished saint among Carpatho-Russians, Ukrainians, Byelorussians, and Russians. Born Ivan Zhelezo in 1551, he became a monk at age 12 and later served as abbot of the Holy Cross Monastery, defending Orthodoxy against Protestant heresies. Known for his asceticism, miracles, and leadership at Pochaev Monastery, his incorrupt relics and the miraculous Pochaev Icon continue to draw thousands of pilgrims annually.
St Gregory Palamas
St. Gregory Palamas emphasized that the essence of Orthodox faith is not just intellectual knowledge about God but a personal relationship with Him. He taught that God is to be experienced through prayer, particularly hesychastic prayer, rather than through education or philosophical debate.
Discover these and other saintly lives through the insightful writings of Father Edward Pehanich, available on our diocese website.
